At recent Nord-West trade show Jeffrey Jackson, the guy who runs Experience Music site, demonstrated his new horn Installation. I know little about it and would like to make some comments about what is feel is obvious from the image.
It is 5-ways ...

Hi, Martin,
As I understand you are the AU guy who makes horns? I heard a lot about you, very welcome, it would be very interesting to hear your experienced…
I agree with you: what I say on the subject to be entirely true. :-) However, talking abou...

"I think the ultimate length of the upperbass horn is 3”- 4” throat. With longer horn it would be very complicated to time-align it as the horn will mask out the MF driver." Is this also why you use tractrix curve for expansion? To shorte...

Hello,
I've just come across this ground shaking project:
"Royal Device has on its own developped and built in Italy the biggest subwoofer of the world for an AUDIO/VIDEO room that can be also considered as the greatest AUDIO ROOM for private m...

I spoke about the minimum proximity of a crossover point to the horn rate but there was one very fine point that I did not address and that I never have seen voiced. We have a horn and the driver of the horn is properly crossed, far enough to escape ...

SG505TT + S150 horn crossover at 180 Hz is not recommended by GOTO. The SG505TT driver is not recommended to use with single throat S150 horn. Double SG505TT driver is recommended to use with single throat S150 horn.&nb...

Ygoh, Most of compression drivers have phase plug. A phase plug is very genomic center line oriented devise. A phase plug must be parallel to diaphragms and perpendicular to the axis of the driver. Practically all compression drivers have beggin...

Dominic:Welcome to the army of the "Great White Horn". I have been using these beasts for almost thrity years. The flange on these horns is designed for use with a 1.4" or 1.5" driver. The JBL 2420 is a 1" 3 bolt "JBL pattern" driver.Adapters are avai...

Hi romy, mine are the 515-G drivers. I will be x-ing over at 600hz to Vitavox S2's (2nd order, yipes!). The S2s are in 320hz LeCleach horns. I was kind of hoping for just a general reply like when you guys look at a pictu...

I wish to construct a single horn speaker that might be used to explore Romy's amplifier design now, while not being useless within a 4-way system in the future (to be housed in a 5x5x3.6m room).I plan to construct it by pouring in a mixture of resin...

OK, I never managed to come up with a horn that did not sound like a horn, and maybe I'm a little bitter about this. But as I read along here, I also wonder if I am missing something, and this raises what seems to me to be a critical question about ...

In considering integration of my own mid-bass horns, and how I'd ideally like to do it, I too passed by the underground, up-firing solution, and very much like this approach. I do however have a preference for inverting the concept, resulting in a do...

Herman,
I am not familiar with your driver and I do not know those horns. It looks like they are 200Hz horns through….
You shall not worry about your horns create any shadow. As I understand you use digital crossovers with your horns and if...

Romy, let me step up to the plate and get shot in the foot or what ever. A lot of what you relate is of course right - BUT, 'where the is smoke - there is a fire" as the saying goes. So, there must be a reason for this 'abnormal' notice of honking horn...
Can we start with a given that different people will care more or less about different "stray" aspects of sound, what to play up and what to play down?
It is incorrect. If you look deeper then you will discover ...

I have no comments about it besides assuring that the company that state all of it does crap in term of Sound. Still, I find that the way in which they think about construction of the walls of their back-loaded horn worth very much attention. Tak...

What is the purpose of having the flexibility to re-configure from straight to J horn? This thing will be large and massive enough that physically moving it from one configuration to another will be difficult and require a lot of effort. Conceptually...

Merlin, I wonder why you need more information if according to you: “the solution that has not been heard and is not intended for your ears”. You migration from sightless denial to desire of self-education is very… I would say fast but st...

This was taken from a crazy article by a mad brazilian, an original Hi Fi News (March'80) drawing of Britain's largest cinema horn (~5,20m2 mouth).Could such a design solve your time-alignment problem?Cheers,Ric...

I've just bumped into an "architectural" installation of concrete horns built into the house:
I know that most north american houses are not built this way (concrete structure and walls) but it will at least show you what can be done.Cheers,Ric...

I understand your point of view concerning 'vintage' in comparison to 'contemporary'. What I find the most troubling with many of the present/contemporary attempts in design is that many people claim to have a truly horn loaded system capable o...

I erroneously referred to the 'throat' of the horn as the 'mouth' at the beginning of the response. (Of course, where ever I noted a dimension of 4" or 7" I'm referrering to the throat of the horn--I haven't settled on the exact dimension of th...

1) If you decided to use the 12” JBL 2206H driver then I doubt that you might talk about 4” throat. A 12” driver with wide outer suspension might go with 7”-8” throat. The 6” might do, though it might be a stretch....
… One very important component I'm leaving out of the cost of the horn is amplification (the horns will be active, using class-D amps). The reason for my choosing class-D amplification is that the modules and various compo...

Dresden, I'm confused-- What is the target low knee? Upper knee? What is the flare rate? Expansion profile? (or T factor -- Hypex, Exponential Tractix, etc). And you want to use one 12" driver? or two in parallel? Or some...
